Summary
Denso has developed a vehicle-to-home (V2H) power supply system for electric vehicles (EV), which is a main part of Denso’ s home energy management system (HEMS) (1). The V2H system can quickly charge an EV with direct current from the HEMS storage battery, and the EV can drive up to twenty kilo meters within only fifteen minutes of the quick charge. Moreover, the system can supply the generated electricity in the EV back to the household. Developed in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp., the system is currently being tested to adapt both plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) and the EV.
Details
Denso’s newly developed V2H system can quickly supply the electricity that is stored in the HEMS storage battery to the EV. The V2H system does not require a dedicated and expensive charging device. Within only fifteen minutes of the quick charge, the EV can drive up to about twenty kilo meters. The V2H system can supply the electricity generated by HEMS’ photovoltaic system (solar panels) to the HEMS storage battery and the EV directly (2). Moreover, the V2H system can supply the electricity in the EV back to the household. The new system was developed in line with the trend toward the standardization of V2H power supply systems. In this demonstration project, Denso plans to use EVs developed by Toyota Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. In 2013 Denso plans to start demonstration tests in Toyota City to find a way to optimize the use of household’s energy using an EV or PHV. Denso aims to develop and commercialize an efficient energy management system to help realize a low-carbon society. In July 2012, Japanese house maker Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. announced a new smart house, ‘Smart Solabo’, which is equipped with the similar V2H system developed by Nichicon Corp (3). In Japan, V2H systems are one of the focused developments looking at the next generation of energy systems for society.
